Elfie!

 This morning we found an elf hanging from the ceiling! We will be journaling about where he came from, how he got there, what is plan is..etc...daily! We did a class vote and decided his name will be Elfie John. 


We are doing a count down for the holidays! They made trees with neatly printing the numbers 1-25. We can't believe there are only 12 more school days until the break! 


A month ago your child came home with a green card that had all of his information for online learning. Please make sure you have this. Ask your child to login to his Google Classroom for you, as well as Raz Kids and Mathletics. If you have any issues, please let me know and I will send you the information.

In math we practiced skip counting for multiplication. They had to go through mazes in order to do so. 

In Social Studies we learned about the Canadian Shield Region. To learn this information we talked about the benefits of Non-Fiction text. I showed them the index and glossary. They were amazed at how easy it was to find information with using alphabetical order.

BHS is participating in the Mayor's Annual Christmas Food Drive!  It will begin Nov 24th and run till Dec 11th.  We will have a donations box setup at the front of the school. 
Please try to help those in need by bringing in any nonperishable food items or a monetary donation.   Thank you for instilling the value of caring for others with your children and families during this holiday season.

 Ask your child who Chanie Wenjack is. We learned all about his story today and wrote about him in detail. We explained what happened to him and how it made us feel. We learned that this week is 'Secret Path Week." Secret Path Week is a national movement which occurs annually from Oct 17-22. Fraction Codes

We have been continuing our learning with fractions. Yesterday they were given a 10x10 graph paper sheet. They created a picture through 8 different colours. They then wrote the fraction of each colour on the grid paper. For example, 5/100 - green. Afterwards they wrote the percentage beside the fraction. Grade 4 has started to learn about decimal points and added that as well. We had a class conversation about where we see percentages in our world? They had many great examples. Ask them what they contributed. Today they created codes with different fractions. They seemed to really enjoy this. Maybe they can show you an example at home! Yesterday and today we read Science articles about vertebrae and invertebrate animals. Afterwards they answered questions on the back.   In Language Arts we are talking about character traits. Comprehension

We have been working on our comprehension strategies, to read and answer questions after listening to a text. Today we listened to a story called "The Shortcut" and answered 6 questions afterwards. All students were asked to go back and check their work, add as much detail as possible, and to reread the questions carefully.  We started a new class novel yesterday! Matilda is a wonderful story. Some students have listened to this story before, or have watched the movie, but that is ok. We talked about how great stories can be read more than once!  In Math, we continue to work on multiplication and division strategies. They are also working on double and triple digit subtraction and addition with borrowing and carrying.  In Science today they made posters on refraction and reflection.
