Zones of Regulation

 This morning we made posters and learned and relearned the "Zones of Regulation.' They worked in small groups to add detail to each poster about how they react and self regulate for each of the zones. We feel lucky to have such a calm group of students to spend our days with! We also realize that we are all human, and sometimes we get into the red zone. Ask your child how they self regulate when this happens. 

In Math we learned about 2-D and 3-D shapes. We counted sides, vertices and edges and logged these in our Math books. 

They helped me alphabetize our word wall word. They asked for this dictionary posted to help them with high frequency words. 

Your child is coming home with a recipe card. Please help them print a holiday joke on the card. We will be reading these every day of December. 

In the afternoon we watched 'Inside Out' to go along with the 'Zones of Regulation.'

In the afternoon we also had a fire drill practice.

 Ask your child who Chanie Wenjack is. We learned all about his story today and wrote about him in detail. We explained what happened to him and how it made us feel. Fraction Codes

We have been continuing our learning with fractions. Yesterday they were given a 10x10 graph paper sheet. They created a picture through 8 different colours. They then wrote the fraction of each colour on the grid paper. For example, 5/100 - green. Afterwards they wrote the percentage beside the fraction. Grade 4 has started to learn about decimal points and added that as well. We had a class conversation about where we see percentages in our world? They had many great examples. Ask them what they contributed. Today they created codes with different fractions. They seemed to really enjoy this. Maybe they can show you an example at home! Yesterday and today we read Science articles about vertebrae and invertebrate animals. Afterwards they answered questions on the back.   In Language Arts we are talking about character traits. Comprehension

We have been working on our comprehension strategies, to read and answer questions after listening to a text. Today we listened to a story called "The Shortcut" and answered 6 questions afterwards. All students were asked to go back and check their work, add as much detail as possible, and to reread the questions carefully.  We started a new class novel yesterday! Matilda is a wonderful story. Some students have listened to this story before, or have watched the movie, but that is ok. We talked about how great stories can be read more than once!  In Math, we continue to work on multiplication and division strategies. They are also working on double and triple digit subtraction and addition with borrowing and carrying.  In Science today they made posters on refraction and reflection.
