Purple People!

I read a story called "Why the World Stopped." They then completed journal entries about how their lives have changed since the pandemic, what they have learned, and what they have found difficult. This is an important conversation that they all felt they could participate in.

In Math, they completed an assessment that helps me understand where they are at and what goals to start and continue with. This took time but they are persevered. 

We listened to an awesome story https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N6lAAyVEyRk - The World Needs More Purple People. What do purple people do? Ask your child! 1.) Ask questions 2.) Laugh a lot 3.) Use your voice 4) Work hard 5.) Be yourself 

In Science they made posters labeled 'What is Science.' We then shared our posters with the class, adding on to our ideas. Some ideas were: labs, explosions, exploring, asking big questions, doctors, Scientists, weather...ask your child what they added.

Greetings Students and Parents. Welcome back to the 2020-2021 school year. My name is Lisa Craig, and I am pleased to inform you that your child will be in my class this year. Please note that due to Covid modifications this placement may be temporary as classes may need to be adjusted again once classes resume. There have been several measures taken at school to ensure the safety of students. One measure has been to create multi-aged classrooms throughout the school in order to better distribute students, creating smaller cohorts. Chanie Wenjack

 Ask your child who Chanie Wenjack is. We learned all about his story today and wrote about him in detail. We explained what happened to him and how it made us feel. We learned that this week is 'Secret Path Week." Secret Path Week is a national movement which occurs annually from Oct 17-22. The week was inspired by Chanie Wenjack, a victim of the residential school system.  Schools have an opportunity to become Legacy Schools and facilitate learning during this week and over the school year through stories of resilience and participating in the 'Walk for Wenjack', which raise awareness of the legacy of residential schools.  ​ For P.E this week we are walking everyday to raise awareness and count our steps. Fraction Codes

We have been continuing our learning with fractions. Yesterday they were given a 10x10 graph paper sheet. They created a picture through 8 different colours. They then wrote the fraction of each colour on the grid paper. For example, 5/100 - green. Afterwards they wrote the percentage beside the fraction. Grade 4 has started to learn about decimal points and added that as well. We had a class conversation about where we see percentages in our world? They had many great examples. Ask them what they contributed. Today they created codes with different fractions. They seemed to really enjoy this. Maybe they can show you an example at home! Yesterday and today we read Science articles about vertebrae and invertebrate animals. Afterwards they answered questions on the back.   In Language Arts we are talking about character traits.
