What Can I Write About?

 Often during free writing time, students have a hard time coming up with ideas to write about. As a class, we made a web of ideas that included; animals, feelings, friends, family, video games, memories, stories, celebrations...and many more. They all copied this web into their journals. This will help them look for ideas when they are unsure. They then had 30 minutes of free writing time. Please ask your child what they wrote about. 

In Math today we worked on basic facts. Many grade 4 students remember division and multiplication from last year. I have some grade 3 students that also understand these concepts. Grade 3 is when we focus and teach multiplication and division as a unit. Please look over their basic fact quiz with them (in their backpacks).  Please remember that most grade 3 students have not yet learning multiplication and division, so that area is not marked. In the afternoon they worked with place value and base ten blocks to represent numbers. 

We are still doing mindfulness everyday after lunch. 

We sure have a great class this year! :)

Please note that due to Covid modifications this placement may be temporary as classes may need to be adjusted again once classes resume. One measure has been to create multi-aged classrooms throughout the school in order to better distribute students, creating smaller cohorts. Chanie Wenjack

 Ask your child who Chanie Wenjack is. We learned all about his story today and wrote about him in detail. We explained what happened to him and how it made us feel. We learned that this week is 'Secret Path Week." Secret Path Week is a national movement which occurs annually from Oct 17-22. The week was inspired by Chanie Wenjack, a victim of the residential school system.  Schools have an opportunity to become Legacy Schools and facilitate learning during this week and over the school year through stories of resilience and participating in the 'Walk for Wenjack', which raise awareness of the legacy of residential schools.  ​ For P.E this week we are walking everyday to raise awareness and count our steps. Fraction Codes

We have been continuing our learning with fractions. Yesterday they were given a 10x10 graph paper sheet. They created a picture through 8 different colours. They then wrote the fraction of each colour on the grid paper. For example, 5/100 - green. Afterwards they wrote the percentage beside the fraction. Grade 4 has started to learn about decimal points and added that as well. We had a class conversation about where we see percentages in our world? They had many great examples. Ask them what they contributed. Today they created codes with different fractions. They seemed to really enjoy this. Maybe they can show you an example at home! Yesterday and today we read Science articles about vertebrae and invertebrate animals. Afterwards they answered questions on the back.   In Language Arts we are talking about character traits.
