Busy Monday!

In Math today, grade 4's (and some 3's!) tried out 2 digit by 1 digit multiplication. Ask your child how they solved the problems.  In literacy, I read them a book called "Big Questions." We then had a great class conversation about what makes a good question. Often, they do not have a yes or no answer. I showed them a strange picture and they had to write 5 great questions about the photo.  Most grade 4's started Human Sexuality today. I will be sending home a form for you to fill out with your child tomorrow.  Spelling words Red: lion, bear, claw, hair, fish Blue: describe, measure, inches, ruler, number Green: millimetre, centimetre, inquiring, recyclable, questioning

Measurement

In Math today we measured our different body parts in inches. We cut and glued together a worksheet and made our own measuring tapes to work with. Ask your child what they found surprising.  Afterwards, they made different measurements for a monster or a creature. Someone else took those measurements and made the monster/creature. We shared these as a class and had some good laughs. Your child will be bringing their monster home today.  We also measured everyone in our class and labeled it on our wall! Mrs. Craig is the tallest. ;)  In Social Studies, they started a research project on India. They used 2 different mini booklets and worked in pairs (but each having to make their own poster).  In Science I would like students to start bringing recyclable materials from home. We will start making box cars and bridges next week!  Grade 4 students are coming home with another form for Human Sexuality. Since we are back, we will be starting next week in class! I will need another signature

Welcome Back!

There was a lot of energy in our classroom this morning! After some catching up and chats (sharing circle) with one another, we wrote about our time away. Many students wrote about their struggles with online learning, memories they made with family, and how excited they were to be back at school!  In Math we continued with measurement. Each student examined, traced and labeled a ruler! We then wrote down definitions for the terms: length, inch, foot, yard, millimetre, centimetre, meter and kilometre. Ask your child what examples we came up with for each measurement.  In mindfulness we want for a calm, silent walk. We used all of our senses while walking.  We had a great first day back! No spelling words this week.

We will be having a half an hour meet with a small literacy task at 10am.  Our schedule for next week is still in the process of being made. We need to make sure siblings do not have the same meeting times..etc.  I will see them online tomorrow if possible!
