Zendoodle!

We enjoyed getting creative this morning and completing some 'Zendoodle' art. They only had white paper and black paint. They were able to take these home today as well as some art we did earlier in the month.  Tomorrow is 'spirit day.' It is 'dress like a teacher day.' I am away tomorrow so I told my class we could do this next Friday together! If they still wish to dress like a teacher in the school that is fine! They can do both days.  Today they worked on rounding in Math. In writing we worked on annotating text! Ask your child what that means and what they completed.  Tomorrow they will still be having their spelling test.  I am away until Wednesday (my daughter is now isolating!). No spelling words next week.

We Are Back In Action!

Room 13 is happy to be back in the classroom! Thank you to my students for helping me get the classroom back in order. We needed to clear off our desks and tidy up all of the plastic that was around our desks.  We started off the morning with some story sharing from our classmates. We had some interesting things happen to us in the last 2 weeks.  We started our new novel that was finally shipped to us! It is the next book in the series of 'The Fitzgerald Trout' family. They seemed to really enjoy the first chapter.  We are trying something new for our mindfulness time. After lunch (if the weather agrees) we are going to a 'sit spot' outside. During this time we are silent and using our senses to appreciate nature. We will be going back to the same 'sit spot' all year round and noticing the changes in scenery and season. Each day we will practice this for 10 minutes.  Speaking of the outdoors, I will be doing many lessons outside as the weather gets warmer. This

Online Learning

We will have our first Google Meets (online meeting) at 9am tomorrow morning. The link will be posted to our Google Classroom stream. Parents, please check your email for further details on assignments and meet times. Please email me if you have any further questions: lmparsons@cbe.ab.ca

Busy Monday

This morning we continued to work on our Spring flowers, using water colour pencil crayons.  We watched a video on facts about Ukraine. Ask your child where Ukraine is on the world map and a couple of facts about this country.  In Math we read the story, "Spaghetti and Meatballs For All." We used this book to understand area and perimeter. They had to arrange tables of people using area and perimeter, on graph paper.  In Language Arts we listened to a different story and completed a chart with characters, problem, setting and solution.  In Science today we read an article about friction. We answered questions about when friction can be negative and when it can be positive (helpful).  We had an important class conversation today about masks and sanitizer. Please have this conversation at home too.  Spelling words this week:  Red: lunch, brunch, crunch, munch, bunch Blue: lever, pulley, wedge, wheel, incline Green: definition, inclined, triangular, elevator, cylinder

Spring Flowers

This morning we had 'free writing time.' Some students struggled with not knowing what to write about. We talked about how writing can be a great way to make up stories that you have always wished could really happen! It is also great for getting your feelings out about different situations. Ask your child what they wrote about.  I read a story called, "Sophie Tells The Truth." We talked about our siblings and if we were the younger sibling or older. We also have 2 students in our class that do not have siblings. They like it that way! :) They completed their spelling test. I have sent it home along with their Math test from yesterday. The grade 4's (and some grade 3's) have an extension on the back of their Math test.  To end the day, we did water colour Spring flowers! These will be completed on Monday. We also gave each person a word (compliment) to start the weekend off right. Ask your child what word someone used to describe them! Have a great weekend, e

Machines and Rollers!

In Science we are are learning about machines. A machine is anything that makes a force stronger. Ask your child what it really means when they say, they are strong! They are also learning about simple machines: levers, wheels, axles, pulleys, wedges, screws and inclined planes. If your child finds any type of machine example at home, please email them to me and we can look at the pictures as a class!  We have also been learning about rollers, in Science. Some examples are conveyor belts. A roller is a long cylinder shape that can be used to help move heavy loads. We learned that they were first used by the Ancient Egyptians to move rocks. Today we learned about friction! Ask your child what this word means.  Yesterday we had a math pop quiz! After marking them, I realized many of them needed to review rounding of numbers. Today we worked as a class and then played a little game with rounding numbers.  In Language Arts we read a Spring folktale and answered 4 questions in our journals

Welcome Back!

We enjoyed writing and sharing our activities that we did, during Spring break. Some people read their journal entry to the class.  In P.E this month we are playing kick ball outside! We had our first game this morning and everyone seemed to have fun.  In Math we have continued with elapsed time. They worked on word problems today. Ask your child to share an example.  In Language Arts we learned about the word 'inferring.' Mrs. Craig read the book "Because" as we inferred what the pictures told us. In Science we made our best guess with the question, 'how does a bike work?' The used the terms wheels and axels in their diagram. After recess we watched a video on the process and Science behind a bikes movement.  Spelling words Red: Spring, bring, sing, ring, King Blue: poem, flower, growing, harvest, farming Green: poetry, investigating, seasonal, gardening, sprouting
