Machines and Rollers!

In Science we are are learning about machines. A machine is anything that makes a force stronger. Ask your child what it really means when they say, they are strong! They are also learning about simple machines: levers, wheels, axles, pulleys, wedges, screws and inclined planes. If your child finds any type of machine example at home, please email them to me and we can look at the pictures as a class!  We have also been learning about rollers, in Science. Some examples are conveyor belts. A roller is a long cylinder shape that can be used to help move heavy loads. We learned that they were first used by the Ancient Egyptians to move rocks. Today we learned about friction! Ask your child what this word means.

Yesterday we had a math pop quiz! After marking them, I realized many of them needed to review rounding of numbers. Today we worked as a class and then played a little game with rounding numbers.

In Language Arts we read a Spring folktale and answered 4 questions in our journals. They also wrote perfect sentences with their spelling words. Spelling test tomorrow.
