Good Afternoon, Grade 3 Families, 

The Grade 3 team at Beddington Heights School is working towards developing a plan to continue learning for our students in the areas of literacy and mathematics, as directed by the government of Alberta.

As we work to develop our plan, you can continue working with your child through the platforms sent previously.  These are:

Raz Kids 

Mathletics 

Tumblebooks 

Writing - Grade 3s have been working on adding detail to writing about an event, by including information about who was there, what they did, where it happened, when it happened, why it happened, and how it made the people involved feel.  Have your child continue to write about their experiences, or the experiences of characters in their books, movies, or TV shows.

Math - Continue working on basic facts.  In Grade 3, this is addition to 9+9 and related subtraction facts, and multiplication to 5x5 and related division facts.
Students have also been working on 2-digit addition and subtraction, with and without regrouping (borrowing).

Please continue to check the blog and your email for further information and suggestions in the coming days.  The situation is evolving quickly with emergent directives will likely be coming from the provincial government and the CBE over the next days. 

We wish everyone a safe, healthy time at home, and will communicate further as more information becomes available.

Greetings Students and Parents. Welcome back to the 2020-2021 school year. My name is Lisa Craig, and I am pleased to inform you that your child will be in my class this year. Please note that due to Covid modifications this placement may be temporary as classes may need to be adjusted again once classes resume. There have been several measures taken at school to ensure the safety of students. One measure has been to create multi-aged classrooms throughout the school in order to better distribute students, creating smaller cohorts. This means that your child will be in a combined Grade 3/4 class this year. Our class will be meeting in the field along Bermuda Way, in the area closest to the compound (NE corner). Our class will enter the school at 8:00am, and will be dismissed at 2:30 in the afternoon, in order to limit the number of students using doors and stairways at the same time. How Do Scientists Know So Much?

 In Science today we asked the over arching question of, 'How Do Scientists Know So Much?" We gathered all of our ideas together as a class. We then learned that staying curious and asking big questions in very important as a student.  Ask your child how fingerprints are made. We made our own fingerprints in our Science book using pencil and tape. Maybe they can show you this at home.  In Grade 6 they are doing their own class election. We are able to vote this year too! In Social Studies today we learned about 3 big questions:  1.) What is the role of government? 2.) How do a dictatorship and democracy differ? 3.) Why is it important to vote? 4.) Who is responsible for making decisions and laws in Canada? We had an excellent discussion while writing about our ideas in our journals.  In Math we learned 5 different strategies to multiply single digit numbers. Earth Day and World Book Day

Hello! I am sorry you couldn't be at school this week as I know I love talking and doing work around Earth Day and World Book Day! Thank you for everyone that have submitted their assignments. Remember to do what you can and if that means handing things in late or prioritizing the subjects, please do that! This is a difficult time for all of us. Mrs. Anderson has created a list of great website for reading!
