Long Division!

 Room 13 enjoyed learning the difference between 'wants' and 'needs.' Many of them had lots of different examples of both. Some students had examples of 'needs' that they could justify with a reason and respectful argument. For example: bees. 

We had a quick introduction to long division today. This is grade 4 math but some grade 3's were very interested to learn as well. We will be working on this skill throughout the rest of the year. Ask your child to show you the steps: 




In Science, I traced their side profiles. We noticed that the closer the light was, the smaller the shadow was. Ask your child why this is.                                                                                                              

At the end of the day, they wrote letters to someone of their choice (that they live with). Please have them share these with you.

Greetings Students and Parents. Welcome back to the 2020-2021 school year. My name is Lisa Craig, and I am pleased to inform you that your child will be in my class this year. Please note that due to Covid modifications this placement may be temporary as classes may need to be adjusted again once classes resume. One measure has been to create multi-aged classrooms throughout the school in order to better distribute students, creating smaller cohorts. How Do Scientists Know So Much?

 In Science today we asked the over arching question of, 'How Do Scientists Know So Much?" We gathered all of our ideas together as a class. We then learned that staying curious and asking big questions in very important as a student.  Ask your child how fingerprints are made. We made our own fingerprints in our Science book using pencil and tape. Maybe they can show you this at home.  In Grade 6 they are doing their own class election. We are able to vote this year too! In Social Studies today we learned about 3 big questions:  1.) What is the role of government? 2.) How do a dictatorship and democracy differ? 3.) Why is it important to vote? 4.) Who is responsible for making decisions and laws in Canada? We had an excellent discussion while writing about our ideas in our journals.  In Math we learned 5 different strategies to multiply single digit numbers.
