Box Cars

 This week we would like to start building our box cars for our Science unit. Please talk to your child about type of material (recycled) they would like to use. Please have them bring in this material. You can look at examples of "cars made out of recycled material" online. 

Last Friday we had presenters from Junior Achievement come in and work with us all day.  We learned about how economies work, what resources and goods are, and what trade is.

In Math today we measured different objects while creating a picture. 

In Science they are making posters for our new science unit "simple machines." They will be able to take these home soon. 

We are down to 11 days until the end of the year! We will review spelling words but will not have anymore spelling tests.

Please note that due to Covid modifications this placement may be temporary as classes may need to be adjusted again once classes resume. There have been several measures taken at school to ensure the safety of students. One measure has been to create multi-aged classrooms throughout the school in order to better distribute students, creating smaller cohorts. This means that your child will be in a combined Grade 3/4 class this year. Our class will be meeting in the field along Bermuda Way, in the area closest to the compound (NE corner). Our class will enter the school at 8:00am, and will be dismissed at 2:30 in the afternoon, in order to limit the number of students using doors and stairways at the same time. How Do Scientists Know So Much?

 In Science today we asked the over arching question of, 'How Do Scientists Know So Much?" We gathered all of our ideas together as a class. We then learned that staying curious and asking big questions in very important as a student.  Ask your child how fingerprints are made. We made our own fingerprints in our Science book using pencil and tape. Maybe they can show you this at home.  In Grade 6 they are doing their own class election. We are able to vote this year too! In Social Studies today we learned about 3 big questions:  1.) What is the role of government? 2.) How do a dictatorship and democracy differ? 3.) Why is it important to vote? 4.) Who is responsible for making decisions and laws in Canada? We had an excellent discussion while writing about our ideas in our journals.  In Math we learned 5 different strategies to multiply single digit numbers. Ask your child what strategy they find the most helpful. Strategies: arrays, equal groups, repeated addition, skip count
