Busy Thursday!

Everyone worked very hard today! We started out our morning with rounding numbers to the nearest 10, 100's and 1000's. We then completed 2 math word problems from our calendar.

After Music and P.E we read a Science fact page called "What is waste?" and "Plant and Animal Waste." They learned that waste is the unwanted materials and objects that people throw away. We learned some very alarming facts such as: 1/3rd  of all food produced in the world goes to waste. Also, the yearly value of the food wasted in the world is 1 trillion dollars and it weighs 1.3 billion tonnes (weight of 800 million cars!).

The last couple of days in math we have been focusing on perimeter and area. We learned that perimeter is the distance around a shape and that area is the units of space inside a shape. Ask your child to draw you some examples with using a rectangle and units of measurement.

In L.A today we learned all about homophones. They guessed that homophones must be "the old phones with the wires sticking out of them!" Nope! :) Homophones are words that sound the same but have different meaning. We made a huge list of all the homophones we know such as, to, too and two. I gave them sentences where they had to fill in the correct homophone.

For mindfulness today they were given a laminated copy of the alphabet in cursive writing. They listened to calm music while they practiced handwriting their names and simple sentences.

Have a great evening!
